Introduction
When a device is managed by datajar.mobi it will fall into a certain category which will signify its use case. We have worked within the device management industry for many years, and this article is designed to clearly convey the options available to your organisation.
iOS / iPadOS classifications
There are three deployment types to be considered when enrolling an iOS / iPadOS device into datajar.mobi. The table below illustrates what is and is not applied:
Shared (non-personalised)
This device classification is aimed at shared carts of iOS / iPadOS devices where there will be no owner nor sensitive data stored on the device.
Shared (personalised)
This device classification is aimed at shared carts of iOS / iPadOS devices where there will be no owner, but there will be data created and stored on the device which may or may not be sensitive. Users sign into devices with Managed Apple IDs that are provisioned through Apple School Manager or Apple Business Manager. They have a personalised user experience with app settings and data on the device being unique to each user. User data is synchronised to the user's iCloud storage in their Managed Apple ID account. With Apple Classroom, teachers can also monitor and have limited control over Shared (personalised) iPads when students are signed into them.
1:1
This device classification is aimed at iOS / iPadOS devices where there will be one owner. There will be data created and stored on the device which may or may not be sensitive. Device profiles are accessed via a secure passcode / Face ID / Touch ID.

Shared
This device classification is aimed at macOS devices where there will be no owner, but the device can be used by multiple users. Device data is secured via a username and password, but the device will not be encrypted nor is the device mobile, i.e. a desktop Mac would be a non-mobile macOS device.
