Introduction

Jamf Simplified Device Enrolment (JSDE) is an application that streamlines the setup for macOS and iOS devices in Jamf Pro. It is supported by the MSP Services Team and replaces older methods with enhanced customisation options.

JSDE has two main functions:

  1. Onboarding – Guides users in configuring their new devices and selecting a role.
  2. Menubar (macOS) / Dashboard (iOS) – Shows essential device information and provides quick access to tools.

JSDE offers a customisable experience for IT teams and users, improving the enrolment process with a structured setup. The MSP Services Team manages the application, relieving organisations from configuration tasks.

How JSDE Works on macOS

  1. Enrolling a Mac installs and launches the JSDE app at the end of the Setup Assistant.
  2. The JSDE app prompts the user to:
    - Set the device name
    - Choose a role
  3. Setup progress is displayed as apps and settings install.
  4. The Mac restarts when setup is complete and user can log in.

How JSDE Works on iOS

  1. Enrolled 1:1 devices install the JSDE app automatically for users to launch and view a dashboard showing current key status.
  2. Enrolled Shared iPad devices install the JSDE app automatically and enter Single App Mode.
  3. Users select a device role.
  4. The device exits Single App Mode for normal use.
  5. Role-based applications and settings are installed.
  6. Personal devices have applications available in Self Service.

Onboarding Features

JSDE's setup is governed by a Configuration Profile (macOS) or App Configuration (iOS) in Jamf Pro, allowing the MSP Services Team to customise:

  • Onboarding Mode – Setup screen appearance options.
  • Device Name & Role Pre-Configuration – Advance setting of device names and roles.
  • Setup Screen Visibility – Option to hide the setup screen if pre-set.

Onboarding Modes (macOS)

  • Full: Occupies the entire screen
  • Window: Floating window that can be minimised
  • Focus: Floats with a blurred background
  • Background: Operates in the background with progress notifications

 

 

Custom Branding

JSDE allows organisations to:

  • Change onboarding screen appearances.
  • Customise quick launch buttons and dashboard layout.
  • Incorporate branding elements (logos, colours).

Menubar (macOS) / Dashboard (iOS) Features
Post-setup, JSDE provides:

  • Device Information (model, OS version, storage, etc.)
  • Network Information (Wi-Fi name, IP address, status)
  • Quick Launch Buttons (shortcuts for tasks or websites)
  • Notifications (system event alerts)
  • Local Admin Access (macOS) – Grants temporary admin privileges for 5 minutes.
