Requesting new Software for deployment with datajar.mobi

Introduction

In order to enable us to deploy new or additional software to your Apple estate, there are a few steps to this which must be completed

These will vary based on how the software is obtained:

If the Software item is available through the iOS App Store, or macOS App Store:

  1. Log into Apple School Manager, Apple Business Manager or the VPP store. If you are unsure which store you should use, please contact us on support@datajar.co.uk 
  2. Purchase as many licenses as required for your desired deployment, including free Apps. If purchasing via the Apple School Manager or Apple Business Manager stores, ensure that these are assigned to the datajar.mobi server, if possible.
  3. Download the Application Assignment spreadsheet below, filling in as follows:
    1. If the software item is for macOS, use the macOS workbook. If the software is for iOS, use the iOS workbook.
    2. Fill in the first column with the name of the software item. (Please ensure this name is exactly as shown in the Apple School Manager, Apple Business Manager or VPP stores to minimise any mis-deployments.)
    3. Fill in the second column with the desired deployment method: 
      • Installed Automatically - the software item will deploy as soon as it is configured
      • Self Service Only - the software item will be available in Self Service for user 'on-demand' deployment
    4. Fill in the third column with the scope for this deployment. Values for this could be:
      • All devices
      • All 1:1 devices
      • All Shared devices
      • Some 1:1 devices (in which case, we would need the exact AD Security Group(s) to scope to)
      • Some Shared devices (in which case, we would need the role(s) to scope to)
  4. Send the Application Assignment spreadsheet to support@datajar.co.uk.

If the Software item is not available through the iOS App Store, or macOS App Store:

  1. Purchase as many licenses as required for your desired deployment. (The method for this will vary software item, to software item. If you're unsure, please contact us on support@datajar.co.uk)
  2. Download the Application Assignment spreadsheet below, filling in as follows:
    1. If the software item is for macOS, use the macOS workbook. If the software is for iOS, use the iOS workbook
    2. Fill in the first column with the name of the software item. (Please ensure this name is exactly as installed to minimise any mis-deployments.)
    3. Fill in the second column with the desired deployment method
      1. Installed Automatically - the software item will deploy as soon as it is configured
      2. Self Service Only - the software item will be available in Self Service for user 'on-demand' deployment
    4. Fill in the third column with the scope for this deployment. Values for this could be:
      • All devices
      • All 1:1 devices
      • All Shared devices
      • Some 1:1 devices (in which case, we would need the exact AD Security Group(s) to scope to)
      • Some Shared devices (in which case, we would need the role(s) to scope to)
  3. Send the Application Assignment spreadsheet, download links, licensing details and any other relevant information to support@datajar.co.uk.
