Overview
In order to onboard your Apple devices onto the datajar.mobi service, they will need to be erased and have the relevant OS reinstalled.
This article details the various methods available to perform this.

From existing MDM provider
To perform this from your current MDM server (either individually or in bulk), follow the steps below:
- Log into your current MDM provider that your iOS device(s) are enrolled to
- Select the device record(s) you wish to erase
- Select "Remote Wipe"
- The device(s) should now be ready for deployment.
All MDM providers will have variations in this process, for specific details on how to remotely wipe your devices, please consult the documentation for your existing mobile device management solution.
From the device
Please Note: This may be blocked / hidden by your current MDM solution.
- Launch the "Settings" App
- Tap "General"
- Scroll down and tap "Transfer or Reset iPhone/iPad"
- Tap "Erase all content and settings"
- Tap "Confirm"
- The device(s) should now be ready for deployment.

From a Mac or PC
- Launch the Finder application on your Mac, or iTunes on your PC
- Connect your iOS device(s)
- If you are asked for your passcode or to trust the computer, follow the onscreen steps
- Select your device when it appears in Finder / iTunes
- In the Summary page, click "Restore [device]"
- Click "Restore" again to begin the process
- Finder / iTunes will now restore the device to factory defaults and update the iOS
- The device(s) should now be ready for deployment.

Erasing and reinstalling tvOS devices
From your current MDM server (either individually or in bulk), follow the steps below:
- Log into your current MDM provider that your tvOS device(s) are enrolled
- Select the device record(s) you wish to erase
- Select "Remote Wipe"
- The device(s) should now be ready for deployment.
All MDM providers will have variations in this process, for specific details on how to remotely wipe your devices, please consult the documentation for your existing mobile device management solution.
From the device
Please Note: This may be blocked / hidden by your current MDM solution.
- Open the "Settings" application
- Select "System"
- Select "Reset"
- Click "Reset" or "Reset All Settings"
- The device(s) should now be ready for deployment.

From a Mac or PC (Apple TV HD or earlier)
Please Note: You will need a USB-C cable (for Apple TV HD) or a Micro-USB cable (for Apple TV 3rd Generation or earlier)
- Unplug the HDMI and power cable from the device
- Launch Finder on your Mac or iTunes on your PC
- Plug the correct USB cable into your device, and into your Mac or PC
- If you don't see the Apple TV Summary page in Finder / iTunes, click the Apple TV logo in the upper-left corner
- Click "Restore Apple TV" in Finder / iTunes
- Finder / iTunes will now restore the device to factory defaults and update the tvOS
- The device(s) should now be ready for deployment.

Erasing and reinstalling macOS devices
From your current MDM server (Apple Silicon)
To perform this from your current MDM server (either individually or in bulk), follow the steps below:
- Log into your current MDM provider that your macOS device(s) are enrolled to
- Select the device record(s) you wish to erase
- Select "Remote Wipe" and provide a lock code (this can be any 6 digit value)
- The device(s) will restart and start wiping the local data
- The device(s) will connect to the network and activate with Apple (a working Wi-Fi or wired connection is needed), then restart again
- The device(s) should now be ready for deployment

From the device (Apple Silicon)
- Ensure your device is running the latest compatible version of the OS
- Click the Apple menu in the corner of your screen, choose System Settings
- Click Software update
- If there is an update available, it will download and install here.
- Continuing in System Settings
- Select General from the sidebar
- Click Transfer or Reset
- Click Erase All Content and Settings and enter the username and password of a local administrator who is also a volume owner
- The device(s) will restart and start wiping the local data
- The device(s) will connect to the network and activate with Apple (a working Wi-Fi or wired connection is needed), then restart again
- The device(s) should now be ready for deployment.
From your current MDM server (Intel devices)
To perform this from your current MDM server (either individually or in bulk), follow the steps below:
- Log into your current MDM provider that your macOS device(s) are enrolled to
- Select the device record(s) you wish to erase
- Select "Remote Wipe" and provide a lock code
- The device(s) will restart, lock and start wiping the local data
- Enter the code to unlock the device(s)
- Follow the steps below in section 'Erasing and reinstalling macOS devices - From the device'

From the device (Intel devices)
- Shut down the Mac
- Boot the Mac into Recovery mode via the appropriate method below:
- On Intel, hold down the Command (⌘)-R Keys and turn the Mac on
- On Apple Silicon, turn the Mac on and continue to press and hold the power button until you see the startup options window. Select options, then continue
- Select "Disk Utility"
- From the Menu Bar, choose "View" then "Show All Devices"
- Select the first item below "internal" in the left-hand bar
- Click the "Erase" button
- Set the Name to "Macintosh HD"
- Leave the Format and Scheme at their default values
- Click "Erase"
- Once complete, quit Disk Utility
- Select "Reinstall macOS"
- Click "Continue" and follow the onscreen instructions to start the install. (This may restart a few times during the installation)
- The device/s should now be ready for deployment.
