Introduction
This article intends to address the error message on macOS Monterey which reads '"____" needs to be updated'.
Prompts like the below will be presented in macOS Monterey when "/usr/bin/python" or just "python" is called.
Cause and Fixes
In the context of Auto-Update, this might be due to the older Extension Attribute being used within Jamf Pro.
An updated Extension Attribute for macOS Monterey which calls /bin/bash, was released the day of macOS Monterey's release to organisations with an Auto-Update subscription. For those with a datajar.mobi fully-managed or hybrid subscription the Extension Attribute should have already been swapped out.
If you have not received this updated Extension Attribute, please raise a new support ticket here.
If the prompts are showing with this new Extension Attribute in place, review the contents of the below file under the account which was presented with the prompt:
~/Library/PythonWrapper/promptedapps.plist
This will detail the calling process which triggered the prompt.
